Late swing refers to the movement of the cricket ball that happens just before it reaches the batter. Unlike early swing the ball stays straight for most of its path through the air. This sudden change in direction makes it extremely difficult for the batter to adjust their shot. It often results in the ball hitting the edge of the bat or the stumps. A bowler delivered a ball that curved sharply only in the last few feet of travel. This skill requires the bowler to maintain a very high speed and a perfect seam. Batters often commit to a shot too early and miss the ball entirely due to this curve. Conditions with high humidity or a heavy cloud cover often help create this late movement. It remains one of the most dangerous weapons a fast bowler can possess.
