A tackle in football is a defensive movement where a player uses their feet to challenge an opponent for possession of the ball, attempting to take the ball away without committing a foul by making contact with the ball first; this action can occur while the defending player is standing or sliding, and a successful tackle disrupts the attacking play and can transition possession back to the defender’s team, but if mistimed or dangerous, it can be penalized under the Laws of the Game.
