LBW stands for ‘Leg Before Wicket,’ which is a way a batter can be dismissed if the ball hits their body instead of the bat. If the umpire decides the ball would have hit the wickets, the batter is out even if they didn’t use their bat.
Example: The bowler appealed loudly, and the umpire raised his finger for an LBW after the ball hit the player’s knee.
Pro-Tip: To be out LBW, the ball generally must not hit the batter’s glove or bat before striking their leg.
