Flight describes the high, looping path a spin bowler gives to the ball as it travels through the air toward the batter. By tossing the ball higher, the bowler tricks the batter into misjudging the distance, often leading them to step forward and miss the shot entirely.
Example: The batter tried to smash the ball, but the bowler’s clever flight meant it landed shorter than expected and resulted in a stumping.
Pro-Tip: Using flight is a classic ‘trap’ because it lures aggressive batters into hitting the ball high into the air where fielders can catch it. It requires a lot of courage for a bowler to give the ball flight because a slight mistake can result in the batter hitting a very easy six.
