An off break is the primary delivery for an off-spin bowler that turns from the off side toward the batter’s legs after bouncing. For a right-handed batter, the ball moves inward, often aiming to squeeze between the bat and the pads to hit the stumps.
Example: The spinner took a crucial wicket with a sharp off-break that turned enough to bowl the batter through the gate.
Pro-Tip: This delivery is most effective when the bowler creates a lot of ‘revs’ or rotations on the ball using their index finger. Consequently, the ball grips the pitch and changes direction much more aggressively, making it a nightmare for batters on a dry, dusty surface.
