An off-cutter is a fast delivery where the bowler rolls their fingers over the ball at the moment of release to create inward spin. Unlike a traditional spin ball, this travels at a much higher speed but still cuts sharply toward the batter once it hits the ground.
Example: The fast bowler used an off-cutter on the crumbling pitch to deceive the batter and force a mistimed shot into the air.
Pro-Tip: This is a brilliant ‘change-up’ delivery because the arm action looks exactly like a standard fast ball. Therefore, the batter expects a straight delivery but is caught off guard when the ball slows down and jaggedly moves toward their body.
