Point Meaning in Cricket

Point is a fielding position located on the off side, directly square with the batter’s wickets. This fielder stands in a high-traffic area to stop fast, horizontal shots like the cut or the square drive.

Example: The fielder at point made a spectacular diving stop to prevent a certain boundary from a powerful square cut.

Pro-Tip: Because the ball reaches this position almost instantly, players at point must have the fastest reflexes on the team. Therefore, captains place their most agile and athletic fielders here to save runs and take sharp catches.
