All out is a term used when a batting team has lost ten of its eleven wickets, meaning there are no more partners left to join the last remaining player at the crease. At this point, the team’s innings must end immediately, regardless of how many balls or overs were left to be played.
Example: The bowling team celebrated wildly after they got the final batter caught, leaving the opposition all out for 150 runs.
Pro-Tip: A team is called ‘all out’ even though one player remains ‘not out,’ because cricket requires two batters to be on the field at the same time. Achieving this quickly is the primary goal for any fielding side to keep the opponent’s total score as low as possible.
