A closed stance is a batting position where the lead foot is placed further toward the off side, causing the batter’s front shoulder to point toward the bowler. This alignment helps the player defend the wickets more effectively, but can make it harder to hit balls on the leg side.
Example: The batter adopted a closed stance to better handle the fast bowler’s away-swinging deliveries.
Pro-Tip: While this stance provides great balance for defensive play, it can ‘limit’ a batter’s vision. Many modern players prefer a more ‘open’ stance to see the ball more clearly with both eyes as it leaves the bowler’s hand.
