Golden Duck Meaning in Cricket

A golden duck occurs when a batter is dismissed on the very first ball they face in their innings. It is considered one of the most embarrassing moments for a player, as they have to walk all the way back to the pavilion without scoring a single run.

Example: The stadium went silent as the home team’s star player walked back for a golden duck in the opening over.

Pro-Tip: While frustrating, even the greatest players in history have suffered a golden duck. It usually happens because the batter hasn’t had time to adjust to the pace of the pitch or the ‘swing’ of the ball before facing a perfect delivery.
