Middle of the bat refers to hitting the ball with the central, thickest part of the cricket blade, often called the ‘sweet spot.’ Contact here results in maximum power and a crisp, satisfying sound, sending the ball away with very little vibration felt by the batter.
Example: The batter didn’t even look at the fielders because he felt the middle of the bat and knew the ball was headed for a six.
Pro-Tip: To find the middle consistently, you must keep your eyes on the ball until the very moment of impact. Hitting the ball even an inch away from this spot significantly reduces the speed of the shot and increases the risk of a catch.
