Back Row Meaning in Volleyball

The back row in volleyball includes the three players farthest from the net. These players focus on passing, defense, and coverage. They cannot block or attack at the net. Therefore, they play a key role in ball control.

Strong back row players keep rallies alive. They also set up attackers with clean passes. However, poor positioning creates easy points for opponents. For example, a libero in the back row dives for a hard hit. He passes the ball perfectly to the setter. The team continues the rally because of strong back-row play.
