Front Row Meaning in Volleyball

The front row in volleyball includes the three players closest to the net. These players handle attacking and blocking duties. Rotation decides who stands in the front row.

Front row players may jump and block at the net. They also hit from any position near the net. Therefore, they shape most scoring chances. Footwork and timing matter greatly here. However, poor coordination causes blocking gaps. Players must track rotations carefully.

For example, a middle hitter rotates forward. She now stands in the front row. She jumps to block an attack. Her hands stop the ball. The team wins the rally through strong front-row play.
