A middle blocker in volleyball plays near the center of the net. This player focuses on blocking quick attacks. Middle blockers also hit fast sets. Speed and anticipation define the role. Therefore, reading the setter matters greatly.

Footwork stays quick and sharp. However, late reactions open lanes. For example, the opponent runs a quick play. The middle blocker moves fast. He jumps at the right moment. He blocks the attack cleanly.
