Drag Reduction System is the full name for DRS. It is a movable rear wing feature. The system reduces air resistance on straights. Drivers activate it electronically. However strict rules control its use. Detection points measure gaps between cars. For example if a driver trails by one second he qualifies. He then opens the rear wing in the next zone. The car accelerates faster than usual. When braking the wing closes automatically. Engineers monitor system performance constantly. The goal is closer racing and more overtakes. Without the gap requirement it would be unfair. The system balances speed with safety.
