Stop-and-Go Penalty Meaning in Formula 1

A stop and go penalty is more severe than a drive through. The driver enters the pit lane and stops. He must remain stationary for a set time. No work can be done on the car. After waiting, he rejoins the race. For example causing a collision may lead to this penalty. The driver stops for ten seconds before leaving. This costs even more time than a drive through. It strongly affects race position. Officials use it for major infractions.
