Downforce Meaning in Formula 1

Downforce is the force pushing the car onto the track. Aerodynamic parts create this effect. Wings and the car floor guide airflow. More downforce increases tire grip in corners. Cars can turn faster without sliding. For example high downforce helps at tight tracks like Monaco. However extra downforce can reduce straight line speed. Teams adjust setups based on circuit layout. Balancing downforce is key to lap time.
