Ground effect is downforce created by airflow under the car. The floor design speeds up air beneath it. Faster air reduces pressure underneath. This pulls the car closer to the track. The effect increases grip without large wings. For example through fast corners the car feels planted. Drivers can turn at higher speeds confidently. However ride height must stay stable. Too much bouncing reduces ground effect strength. Modern Formula 1 cars rely heavily on this principle. Ground effect improves racing by reducing dirty air.
