An ankle ride is a top control technique. You hook or trap one of your opponent’s ankles. This limits their ability to stand up. It keeps their hips from building a strong base. You stay tight behind them for balance. Pressure remains steady from above. Ankle rides often stop escape attempts. They also set up turns.
For example, a wrestler traps the ankle during a stand-up attempt. The bottom wrestler cannot fully rise. The referee allows control to continue. Ankle rides create strong mat control. Good balance makes them effective.
