A knockout happens when a fighter cannot rise before the referee counts to ten. The referee begins counting after a boxer falls. If the boxer fails to stand in time, the fight ends.
A knockout often follows a powerful clean punch. It usually targets the chin or temple. Because the brain shakes inside the skull, balance disappears.
For example, Mike Tyson scored many early knockouts in his career. His opponents often fell from a single punch. A knockout brings a decisive finish. Judges do not need to score rounds. However, knockouts require accuracy and timing, not only strength. Fighters always protect themselves from that risk.
