A parry is a small defensive move that redirects a punch. The boxer uses an open glove to tap the punch aside. This action changes the punch’s path slightly. It requires minimal movement and sharp timing. Because the motion stays small, balance remains intact. A good parry sets up an immediate counterattack. For example, Wladimir Klitschko often parried jabs with his rear hand. He then fired a straight right down the center. The parry works best against straight punches. Wide hooks prove harder to redirect cleanly. Skilled fighters practice this move repeatedly. Clean parries conserve energy and create openings.
