Topspin is a type of spin that makes the ball dip downward. The player brushes up the back of the ball. This action creates forward rotation. The ball clears the net safely, then drops quickly. After bouncing, it jumps higher toward the opponent. Players use topspin for control and power. For example, a player swings fast on a forehand. The ball arcs high but lands inside the baseline. The opponent struggles with the high bounce. Topspin allows aggressive shots with margin for error.
