Protected Ranking in Tennis refers to a special ranking a player can use after a long injury break. The tour freezes their previous ranking for limited tournament entries. This helps injured players return without starting from zero. However, they cannot use it forever. Most tours allow it for a set number of events. For example, a player ranked 15th gets injured for eight months. They return ranked much lower due to inactivity. Using a protected ranking, they enter a major event directly. This system protects careers during unavoidable absences.
