Ball abuse occurs when a player hits a tennis ball out of the court in anger. This usually happens after a player loses a tough point or feels frustrated with their play. The ball might fly into the stands or over the stadium fence entirely.
This is dangerous because a fast-moving ball could accidentally strike a fan or an official. Umpires monitor this closely to maintain a safe environment for everyone in the building. It is different from a normal shot because the ball is not in active play. A player who does this will receive a penalty from the chair umpire immediately.
For example, a player might hit a ball into the sky after double-faulting on a break point. This act of frustration often leads to a warning under the official code of conduct. Controlling your temper is essential for staying in the match mentally and physically.
