Low Percentage Shot Meaning in Tennis

A low percentage shot is a risky play that is very difficult to execute successfully. This often involves aiming for a tiny target very close to the lines or hitting a winner from a defensive position. While these shots look amazing when they land, they result in an error most of the time. Beginners often try these shots when they are frustrated or trying to end a point too quickly.

For example, a player attempts a low percentage shot by trying to hit a winner from ten feet behind the baseline. The ball usually hits the net or lands wide, giving the point to the opponent. Taking too many of these risks will cause you to lose matches to more consistent players.

It is better to wait for the right moment to be aggressive rather than forcing it. Smart players only take these shots when they have a clear advantage or a very short ball. Discipline is the difference between a great shot and a bad mistake.
