Safety Meaning in Billiards

A safety is a defensive shot that avoids giving the opponent an easy chance. Instead of trying to score, the player focuses on position. The goal is to leave the cue ball in a difficult spot. This limits the opponent’s options. Players use safeties when no clear scoring shot exists. For example, a player gently taps the object ball and hides the cue ball behind another ball. Smart safeties win games through strategy.
