A plant is a shot where one ball is used to knock another into a pocket. This is also commonly known as a combination shot in many regions. The cue ball hits the first ball, which then strikes the second target. These two balls are often touching or very close to each other. It is an excellent way to reach a ball that is otherwise blocked. You must align the centers of both balls with the center of the pocket. Precision is key because a small error in the first hit is magnified. For example, a player hits a red ball so it knocks the yellow ball in. The yellow ball was sitting perfectly in front of the open corner pocket. This technique allows you to score even when your direct path is obstructed. It is a fundamental skill for navigating crowded tables during a competitive match.
