A jawed ball is a ball that gets stuck between the two edges of a pocket. This happens when the ball hits the corners of the hole too hard. Instead of falling in, the ball bounces back and forth and stays out. This is a very frustrating outcome for any player during a match. It usually means your aim was slightly off or you used too much power. The jaws of the pocket are the curved rubber parts that lead into the hole. For example, a player shoots the eight ball for the win but it becomes a jawed ball. It rattles between the edges and sits right on the brink of the pocket. This leaves an incredibly easy shot for the opponent to finish the game. Learning to control your speed will help you avoid this common mistake. It is one of the most tense moments in a game of pool.
