Air Gun Meaning in Billiards

An air gun is a derogatory term for a player who talks a lot but cannot play well. It refers to someone who is full of hot air and makes big claims about their skill. These players often boast about high runs or winning tournaments they never actually entered. Once they step up to the table, their lack of true ability becomes very obvious to everyone. It is the opposite of a hustler, who hides their skill to trick people into betting. An air gun usually does the opposite by trying to sound much better than they really are. For example, a man at the bar claims he is the best player in town. After three air balls in a row, the regulars realize he is just an air gun. It is a reminder that real skill in billiards is shown through action rather than words. Always let your performance speak for itself during a match.
