Dropped Meaning in Cycling

Dropped is a term used when a cyclist can no longer keep up with the group they are riding with. This usually happens on steep hills or when the pace becomes very fast. As the gap between the rider and the group grows, the rider loses the benefit of drafting. Once you are dropped, it is very difficult to catch back up because you are fighting the wind alone. It is a common experience for every cyclist and is often a sign of reaching your physical limit. In a race, getting dropped can mean the end of your chances for a high finish. However, many riders use it as a motivation to train harder and stay with the pack next time. It is important to stay positive and keep your own steady pace to finish the ride. For example, a beginner gets dropped by the fast group on the final climb of a long afternoon ride. They don”t give up and eventually reach the cafe to meet their friends for a well-earned rest. It is a natural part of the sport.
