Schrader is the name of the wide, sturdy valve used on many bicycle inner tubes. This is the same type of valve found on car tires and motorcycles. It features a spring-loaded pin in the center that you must press down to release air.
Schrader valves are very common on mountain bikes, children’s bikes, and entry-level hybrid bikes. One major advantage is that you can pump them up at any gas station without needing a special adapter. They are much more robust and harder to bend than the thinner Presta valves found on race bikes.
For example, a casual rider might use a standard car tire pump to inflate their Schrader valves before a trip to the local park. They are easy to use and very reliable for everyday cycling. Most affordable floor pumps come with a head that fits these valves perfectly. They are a universal standard for air-filled tires.
