Supe-tuck Meaning in Cycling

A super-tuck is an extreme aerodynamic position where a rider sits on the bicycle’s top tube during a descent. Instead of staying on the saddle, the cyclist crouches low and rests their chest near the handlebars.

This posture significantly reduces wind resistance and allows the bike to travel much faster without any pedaling. For example, Matej Mohorič famously used the super-tuck to pull away from his rivals on high-speed mountain descents. While it is very effective for gaining speed, it is also considered quite dangerous due to the lack of control.

Because of safety concerns, the professional cycling governing body officially banned this position in racing in 2021. I think it is important for beginners to know that this move requires professional skills and very stable roads.

Most modern riders now use a more standard tuck while staying safely seated on their saddle for stability. Even without sitting on the frame, you can still go very fast by simply tucking your elbows. It remains a famous part of cycling history and a common sight in virtual racing.
