A back-of-the-hand pass is a flashy way to move the ball to a teammate. Instead of a normal throw, the player flicks the ball using the back of their hand. This move is usually done while a defender is tackling the ball carrier. It allows the player to get the ball away in a very tight space. This pass is risky because it is harder to control than a standard pass. If it works, it can completely bypass a line of focused defenders. It is one of the most exciting skills to watch in a professional game. For example, a player might flick the ball behind their back while falling. This surprise move finds a teammate who then sprints into the open field. It requires great confidence and soft hands to pull off under pressure.
