Kohai meaning in Aikido

Kohai in Aikido describes a junior student who has less experience than others. Being a kohai does not mean weakness or lack of ability. It simply reflects time spent training. Kohai students learn by observing seniors, asking questions, and practicing fundamentals consistently. Respect flows both ways, as kohai show attentiveness while sempai offer guidance. This structure encourages steady improvement and discipline without competition.
