A bow thruster consists of a small propeller located in a tunnel near the front. This device provides lateral power to push the front of the boat sideways during maneuvers. It helps the captain turn the vessel in tight spaces without using the main engine. Most thrusters use an electric motor controlled by a joystick at the steering station.
