The back squat is a fundamental exercise where the athlete rests a barbell across the shoulders. The lifter bends the knees and hips to lower the weight toward the floor. This movement builds massive strength in the legs, glutes, and the lower back area. A weightlifter performs five repetitions of the back squat to increase their leg power. Keeping the heels flat on the ground ensures stability and safety during the lift. Proper depth requires the hips to drop below the level of the kneecaps.
