Bar height represents the vertical distance the barbell reaches during a snatch or a clean. An athlete must pull the bar high enough to drop underneath it and catch it. Taller lifters often need more bar height to find a stable receiving position for the weight. A coach measures the bar height to see if the lifter pulls with enough force. Improving the speed of the transition allows a lifter to succeed with lower bar heights. Reaching the necessary height requires a full extension of the ankles, knees, and hips.
