Collars Meaning in Weightlifting

Collars are metal or plastic clamps that slide onto the ends of a barbell. These devices lock the weighted plates securely against the rotating sleeves of the bar. Using collars prevents the weights from shifting or sliding off during a lift. This safety feature keeps the barbell balanced while the athlete moves the load. Standard competition collars weigh exactly two point five kilograms each to ensure total accuracy. A lifter slides the collar against the plates and tightens the lever firmly. This prevents the plates from rattling or moving during a heavy clean and jerk. Checking the tightness of the collars ensures the bar remains safe for every repetition.
