Deload Meaning in Weightlifting

A deload refers to a scheduled period of reduced training intensity and volume. Athletes lower the total weight and the number of repetitions for one week. This strategy allows the central nervous system and the joints to recover fully. A deload prevents overtraining and helps the body prepare for future heavy sessions. Most lifters perform this light week every four to six weeks of training. The athlete still practices their technique but uses much lighter barbell loads. A person lifts only fifty percent of their maximum weight during a deload. Following this plan ensures the athlete stays healthy and avoids chronic fatigue.
