Foot placement refers to the specific position of the feet during a weightlifting movement. The athlete usually starts with the feet hip width apart for a strong pull. They then move the feet wider into a squat position to catch the bar. Correct placement ensures the body remains balanced and stable under a heavy barbell load. This positioning also allows the lifter to use their leg muscles with maximum efficiency. Proper footwork prevents the athlete from falling forward or backward during an intense lift. A lifter moves their feet out slightly after pulling a heavy snatch from the floor. Keeping the heels flat on the ground provides a solid foundation for every lift.
