Overreach Meaning in Weightlifting

Overreach defines a short period of very intense training that pushes the body beyond its limits. This planned stress forces the muscles and nervous system to adapt and grow much stronger. Athletes follow this hard phase with a period of rest to allow the body to recover. The lifter finished a difficult overreach week before taking a lighter break to heal. Managing this level of fatigue prevents long-term injuries or a complete loss of athletic motivation. Coaches use this method to help lifters break through a performance plateau and reach new records.
