A rebend describes the second slight bend of the knees that occurs during a weightlifting jerk. This movement happens after the initial drive to help the lifter get under the moving barbell. Straightening the legs again quickly allows the athlete to lock the weight overhead with stable arms. The lifter used a fast rebend to catch the heavy bar with perfectly straight elbows. Mastering the timing of this knee action ensures a smooth transition from the shoulders to the top. Proper execution of this technique prevents the bar from crashing down on the athlete during the catch.
