Red lights are the visual signals used by referees to indicate a failed or illegal lift. Each of the three judges has a button to reveal their decision after an athlete finishes. If two or three lights turn red, the lift does not count toward the total score. The athlete saw three red lights because they dropped the barbell before the down signal. These signals provide immediate feedback to the athlete, the coaches, and the audience about the ruling. Avoiding technical errors like moving the feet or bending the elbows prevents these negative results.
