Snatch Meaning in Weightlifting

The snatch involves lifting a barbell from the floor to overhead in one motion. This movement requires the athlete to use a very wide grip on the metal bar. The lifter pulls the weight upward and then quickly drops into a deep squat. They catch the bar with locked arms before standing up to a full height. An athlete successfully lifts eighty kilograms over their head during the first round of competition. Speed and timing matter more than raw strength during this technical and fast Olympic lift. Success depends on keeping the bar very close to the body during the entire pull.
