Split Clean Meaning in Weightlifting

The split clean involves catching a barbell at the shoulders while landing in a lunge. One foot moves forward and the other foot moves backward into a stable stance. This technique serves as an alternative to the traditional squat catch for certain lifting styles. The athlete pulls the bar upward and quickly shifts their feet into the long position. A lifter recovers from the lunge by stepping the feet back together after the catch. This method provides a very stable base for athletes who struggle with deep squatting. Fast footwork remains the most critical factor for a successful and safe split clean.
