The squat clean involves catching a barbell at the shoulders while in a deep squat. The athlete pulls the bar from the floor and quickly drops their hips low. This low receiving position allows the lifter to catch heavier weights than a high catch. The lifter must keep the chest up and the elbows high to stay balanced. A weightlifter catches a heavy bar and then stands up to complete the movement. Stability in the bottom of the squat prevents the bar from falling forward or backward. Mastering this timing remains essential for lifting the maximum amount of weight possible.
