Third Attempt Meaning in Weightlifting

The third attempt represents the final opportunity for a weightlifter to lift a specific weight. Every athlete receives only three tries for the snatch and three for the clean and jerk. This lift often determines the final ranking and whether the athlete wins a medal. Lifters usually choose their heaviest possible weight for this last trip to the platform. An athlete successfully lifts one hundred kilograms on their final try to take the lead. Missing this attempt means the lifter must settle for the result of their previous lift. Strategy plays a huge role in selecting a weight that the athlete can finish.
