Triple extension describes the simultaneous straightening of the hips, knees, and ankles during a lift. This movement generates the maximum vertical power needed to launch the barbell into the air. The athlete pushes hard against the floor until they are standing on their very toes. Proper extension ensures that the power from the legs transfers efficiently into the heavy bar. A lifter reaches full height with straight legs before dropping down into the catch. This is the most powerful moment in both the snatch and the clean movements. Missing any part of this extension results in a much weaker and lower pull.
