Volume refers to the total number of repetitions and sets performed within a specific training period. High volume training involves doing many lifts with moderate weights to build a strong muscular foundation. This phase of training usually occurs far away from a competition to prepare the body for heavier loads. Lowering the volume allows the athlete to recover and focus on moving much faster with maximum weights. A lifter performs ten sets of three repetitions to accumulate a high amount of practice. This variables is one of the most important tools a coach uses to manage athlete fatigue. Balancing volume with intensity ensures the lifter remains healthy while getting stronger every single week.
