Weigh-In Meaning in Weightlifting

The weigh-in is a mandatory process where officials measure an athlete’s body weight before the competition begins. This usually happens exactly two hours before the start of a specific lifting group or session. Athletes must fall within the specific limits of their chosen category to be allowed to compete. If an athlete is too heavy, they may have a short time to lose the extra weight. A lifter steps onto the digital scale wearing only their undergarments to get an accurate reading. This process ensures that everyone in the group is of a similar size for a fair fight. Success at the scale is the first step toward a successful day on the platform.
